Kennedy said this was just west of McFarland Boulevard and its intersection with Highway 43 and Main Avenue.
"Shots were reported fired, and the vehicle fled the scene," he said. "A pursuit of the vehicle began, which eventually involved several police agencies, and travelled through-out multiple areas of Tuscaloosa County. The pursuit crossed into Greene County, where the suspect vehicle crashed near Exit 52 on I-20/59."

He went on to say that officers and deputies from several jurisdictions, including the Northport Police Department, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriffβs Office, ALEA, and from within Greene County, approached the vehicle and reported that the suspect was armed with a firearm.
Shots were fired from several officers, Kennedy explained, and the suspect was struck by gunfire.
He was reportedly treated at the scene scene and transported for medical treatment but did not survive his injuries
"At this time, the investigation into the officer-involved shooting incident that occurred with Northport Police that initiated the pursuit is being investigated by the Violent Crimes Unit," he said. "No investigators affiliated with the Northport Police Department will be involved with that investigation. This investigation is just beginning, and it will be some time before any other statements or information will be released."
He then explained that the investigation into the officer-involved shooting in Greene County is being investigated by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agencyβs (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).
This is the second fatal officer-involved shooting in Tuscaloosa County in as many months, as Patch previously reported, following a fatal shooting in the 700 building at Aspen Village apartments that left a man dead in March.
