TUSCALOOSA, AL β Tuscaloosa City Schools on Wednesday announced it will provide free breakfast and lunch this summer to students through its summer feeding program.

Free meals will be available to children aged 18 and younger at most school locations.

βWe are serving a need in our community by offering these meals to our students, and we will continue to do so this summer,β TCS Superintendent Mike Daria said.
TCS says a list of exact locations and times will be released at a later date.

This news comes after the state of Alabama decided not to administer a federal EBT program for summer meals for kids in 2024, which, if approved, would have sent families $40 a month for each eligible child through EBT for food.
TCS was quick to point out, though, that the program is not the same as the free meals provided through the schools, with TCS planning to continue its free meals as it has provided every summer, including to students who participate in its summer learning program.
