TCSS Superintendent: Northport Crime Scene 'An Upsetting Thing For Our Students To See'
TCSS says counselors and social workers have been deployed to its schools in Northport following a fatal shooting at an apartment complex.

NORTHPORT, AL — Tuscaloosa County School System Superintendent Keri Johnson says counselors and social workers are on hand at its schools in Northport following a fatal shooting early Thursday morning in Knoll Circle.

As Patch previously reported, a male victim was shot and killed at the Northport Housing Authority complex off of 17th Street, prompting a homicide investigation and large police presence in the neighborhood.

A suspect is reportedly in custody.
At the scene, this reporter noted numerous school-age children wearing backpacks as they waited for the bus to pick them up just feet away from where investigators were working.

Johnson addressed a message to families of Crestmont Elementary, Collins-Riverside, Echols Middle School and Tuscaloosa County High Students, saying the scene was "an upsetting thing for our students to see."
"Please reach out to your school administrator if you have concerns about your student, and encourage them to talk to their school counselor whenever they are in need of support," she said.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and no further details have been released about the victim or potential suspect.
