Kennedy said the shooting was determined to have occurred in the 1900 block of Harper Road in Northport, and multiple shell casings were located, along with video that showed an automatic weapon was being fired.
The other individual involved in the shooting was later identified as 18-year-old Akari Morgan.

Kennedy said the weapon used was also recovered and found to be a modified pistol capable of automatic gunfire, commonly known as a “switch.”
"Issues of self-defense have been raised in the shooting, and its cause and motive are still under investigation," he said. "At the conclusion of the investigation, the case will be presented to a grand jury for both subjects, to determine additional charges, if any."
He then said Morgan was charged with the separate offense of “Violation of Glock Switch Act” pursuant to Alabama Acts 2025-54, which was signed into law by Governor Kay Ivy in March.
Morgan was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail on July 11 and his cash bond was later set at $25,000.
