Teen Suspect In Custody After 5-County Chase Ends Near Tuscaloosa

TUSCALOOSA, AL — A high-speed pursuit involving Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) Troopers ended early Saturday morning with the arrest of a 15-year-old driver from New Market, Tennessee.

ALEA says the chase began around 7:20 a.m. in Centre, Cherokee County, when a Centre Police Department officer attempted to pull over a 2023 Nissan Armada.

The driver of the Armada refused to stop and prompted a pursuit that traveled south on U.S. Highway 411 before merging onto Interstate 59.
Troopers then said that during the chase, the Armada struck two civilian vehicles in Jefferson County before the pursuit concluded in Tuscaloosa County when the Armada left the roadway and crashed into a fence and building at the 77-mile marker.

ALEA said the driver fled on foot but was apprehended by a trooper without incident.
In total, the pursuit covered five counties and involved numerous agencies.
The teen suspect was transported to the Tuscaloosa County Juvenile Detention Center and charged with felony eluding.
