TUSCALOOSA, AL — Alabama baseball standouts TJ McCants and Gage Miller on Thursday were named semifinalists for the Dick Howser Trophy by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

The duo were two of 68 student-athletes named to the semifinalist list for the honor, which is presented each year to college baseball's top player. No Alabama player has ever won the award.

For his line, McCants — a transfer from Ole Miss — is hitting.316, with 14 doubles, two triples, 14 homers, 49 RBI and 44 runs scored.
Miller leads the team with a .376 average and has logged 10 doubles, two triples and 18 home runs on the season.

The Dick Howser Trophy award is named after former Florida State University All-America shortstop and major league player and manager who died of brain cancer in 1987.
Finalists for the award will be announced on June 8.
