Alabama's Riley Quick Becomes Sixth First-Round Pick In Program History

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Alabama right-hander Riley Quick was selected with the 36th overall pick by the Minnesota Twins in the Competitive Balance Round A in the 2025 MLB Draft.

Quick becomes just the sixth first-round pick in Crimson Tide baseball history and the second in as many years, joining Ben Hess, who was taken 26th overall by the New York Yankees in 2024.

The Trussville native is now the third-highest-drafted pitcher in program history.
Quick earned ABCA/Rawlings All-Southeast Region Second Team honors in 2025 and was named Second Team All-SEC following a strong redshirt-sophomore season. He posted 10-4 record with a 3.72 ERA (36 ER/87.0 IP) and 101 strikeouts compared to 46 walks

Quick also overcame season-ending elbow surgery in 2024 and returned to become one of the SEC’s top arms in 202 while also being recognized for his work in the classroom by earning SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll accolades in 2024 and 2025 and SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll recognition in 2023.
Alabama’s all-time MLB Draft total now grows to 177 picks (166 players) since the draft’s inception in 1966. The Crimson Tide has now produced at least one draft pick in 47 consecutive years and in 54 of the 60 drafts overall.
