TUSCALOOSA, AL — Officers with the Tuscaloosa Police Department (TPD) engaged in a pair of unrelated high-speed chases that occurred within half an hour of one another in the area of Skyland Boulevard Tuesday night.

TPD spokesperson Stephanie Taylor told Patch that the first pursuit began at 7:28 p.m. when an officer attempted to stop a Toyota Camry for an expired tag.

She said the driver pulled off on Exit 76 and drove through several neighborhoods off Skyland Boulevard before the pursuit was terminated after approximately three minutes.

A short while later, a TPD officer attempted to stop the driver of a Honda CRV for an expired tag at 7:57 p.m. in the 3500 block of Greensboro Avenue.

Taylor said the driver refused to stop, got on the interstate and also pulled off at Exit 76 and Skyland Boulevard.

The female driver then continued through Cottondale and onto University Boulevard East, where the pursuit was terminated due to unsafe conditions after about seven minutes.

Taylor said investigators do have a suspect in the second chase.

Both drivers in the separate chases face charges of felony eluding the police and reckless driving.
