TPD said Thursday that the child was riding in the front passenger seat of a Ford Taurus driven by a 30-year-old Tuscaloosa woman when the vehicle struck a BMW traveling across Skyland Boulevard.
Witnesses told police that the Taurus was traveling eastbound without headlights when it struck the BMW on the driver’s side.

The driver of the BMW, a 47-year-old Tuscaloosa woman, had been attempting to cross Skyland from the ALDOT office to reach the westbound lanes.
TPD said both vehicles came to rest in the median and several motorists stopped to help the victims before paramedics arrived.
All three occupants were transported to DCH Regional Medical Center, with the driver of the Taurus treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, while the BMW driver sustained minor injuries.
The child was later airlifted to Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham, where she remained hospitalized Thursday in stable condition.
TPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit, which investigates all serious traffic crashes, responded to the scene and is continuing the investigation.
