After taking over the program in 2021 following his resounding success at Bessemer Academy, Wright has guided the Knights to a 27-11 record, along with a 15-2 mark in region play.
Wright was also at the helm when TA made the move to compete in the Alabama High School Athletic Association beginning in the 2022-2023 school year.

During these first two years playing in AHSAA Class 2A, the Knights posted back-t0-back 10-win seasons for the very first time in school history and advanced to the third round of the playoffs both years.
"Coach Wright's impact on Tuscaloosa Academy goes beyond the wins and losses," TA's Head of School Beckie Share said. "He has become a vital part of our school community, instilling values of discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship in our student-athletes."
Over his 16-year coaching career, Wright has proven to be one of the most successful coaches in the state, posting an eye-popping record of 158-48.
Wright's coaching pedigree is also worth noting, considering he is the son of the legendary Hall of Fame coach Lynn Wright, who compiled a career record of 209-75 along with five AISA 2A State Championships in football and three baseball state titles at Pickens Academy.
Along with his contract extension, the school recently commemorated his 150th win during a home game in the past season, which Patch previously reported.
"Coach Wright's achievements speak volumes about his coaching abilities and the positive culture he has cultivated within the Tuscaloosa Academy football program," TA Athletic Director Byron Abston said. "We are confident that our student-athletes will continue to excel on and off the field under his leadership."
