Tuscaloosa City Council Approves Pay Raises For Officials
The Tuscaloosa City Council on Tuesday approved changes to its salary structure for its councilors and president pro tempore.

TUSCALOOSA, AL— The Tuscaloosa City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved changes to its salary structure for its councilors.

The pay raise will not include the mayor and will go into effect after the 2025 municipal election.

This will be the first raise for council members in 16 years, according to District 6 Councilor John Faile, who chairs the council's administration committee that approved the ordinance amendment before sending it on to the full council for a vote.
Under the new ordinance, the annual salary for each city council member, excluding the president pro tempore, will come out to $37,818.30, compared to the council's previous annual salary of 32,586.80.

According to the city's salary schedule and City Hall sources, the council president's salary will increase from $39,269.21 to $44,469.30. The president pro tempore's new fixed salary will also be set at $44,469.30.
The raises are not subject to step raises but will be eligible for cost-of-living adjustments (COLA)
