Tuscaloosa City Schools To Present Annual Athletics Report
Here's an overview of the annual athletics report that will be presented Tuesday night by Tuscaloosa City Schools leaders.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Tuscaloosa City Schools (TCS) reports that the cumulative grade point average (GPA) for its 372 senior student-athletes came in at 3.32 for the 2023-24 school year.

As part of its annual athletic report for the year, which will be presented to the Tuscaloosa City Board of Education Tuesday night, the data showed that Northridge High athletics led the way with the highest cumulative GPA for the three city high schools with 3.69, following by Paul W. Bryant High at 3.13 and Central High at 2.89.

For the last school year, there were a total of 30 scholarship recipients across the three schools: Northridge (20), Central (6) and Bryant (4). At final count, 1,523 students participated in athletics in 2023-2024 — coming out to an average of roughly 50.3% participation in athletics among those in each school's study body.
Of the total number of participants, 823 were male and 700 were female, which reflects approximately the same ratio at each of the three high schools.

TCS reports a total of 541 participants in middle school sports across its four schools, with Northridge Middle School again seeing the highest participation, with 259 student-athletes.
What's more, an average of 35% of students are participating in athletics at each of the four schools.
The school system also touted improvements during the last school year, including new equipment and weight room flooring for all three high schools, in addition to increased operational funding for high schools from $70,000 to 100,000 each.
TCS said it saw its operational funding for middle schools increased from $30,000 to $35,000 for each school, along with the installation of LED video boards and lighting at the three high schools.
Supplements were also added for Special Olympics, cheer, cross country and middle school track and field.

- Coach Evaluator software program.
- LED digital scoreboards.
- Title IX professional development for all athletic directors.
- Technology upgrades in athletic field houses.
- District HUDL contract approved for 2024-25.
- Annual summer high school athletic camps per cluster.
- Replacement of LED lighting in varsity gyms.
- Addition of visitor concession stands for Bryant and Central High School football stadiums for fall 2024.
In rounding out its annual report, TCS reports plans to consider the addition of dressing rooms and additional seating for auxiliary gyms.
The school system also said it aims to explore the construction of multipurpose indoor facilities for its high schools while developing a plan to upgrade visitors' dressing rooms.
Other plans call for potentially upgrading the sound systems at its high school stadiums and gymnasiums, along with replacing bleachers for high school gymnasiums.
The Tuscaloosa City Board of Education will hear about this report and more Tuesday night at its regular meeting at 6 p.m.
