Tuscaloosa County School Board Names Dan Butler Interim TCSS Superintendent

The Tuscaloosa County Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday to appoint Dan Butler as interim superintendent.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa County Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday to appoint Dan Butler as interim superintendent of the Tuscaloosa County School System (TCSS).

Patch previously reported that Keri Johnson resigned as superintendent to take the same job at Pelham City Schools.

Butler, a former superintendent of Hale County Schools, previously served as interim superintendent in Tuscaloosa County from March 2012 to June 2013.

TCSS President Bill Squires says Butler brings 41 years of experience in education and has also held interim superintendent roles in Pell City and St. Clair County.

“We are glad Mr. Butler has agreed to serve in the role of Interim Superintendent for TCSS,” Squires said. “He has spoken very highly of the Tuscaloosa County School System, the opportunities we provide for students, and the quality of our faculty and staff.”

The board also approved a search process for the next permanent superintendent.

The job posting will go live Friday, Sept. 12, and remain open for at least 30 days.
