Tuscaloosa Debuts Renovated Snow Hinton Park Ahead Of Kentuck Festival

The City of Tuscaloosa on Friday celebrated the reopening of Snow Hinton Park, which recently underwent a major facelift.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The City of Tuscaloosa on Friday celebrated the reopening of Snow Hinton Park, which recently underwent a major facelift ahead of hosting the biggest event in its history later this month.

Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox, District 6 Councilor John Faile, and Peggy Hogue, daughter of former Mayor Snow Hinton, each spoke to attendees about the park's significance.

“Every family that comes into this park, hearing their children’s laughter and creating priceless memories, has the legacy of Mayor Snow Hinton to thank,” Maddox said, going on to point out that the park will host the upcoming Kentuck Festival of the Arts for the first time.

The festival is set for Oct. 19-20

Funded by Elevate Tuscaloosa, the park improvements include a new ellipse feature and walking track, restrooms, a pavilion, upgraded lighting and security, and expanded parking.

“This park is a testament to how much we can achieve for the future of Tuscaloosa,” Faile said. “Our future is bright, and today is a wonderful day as we celebrate this iconic park.”

Hogue also spoke about her father's dedication to the community, recalling that the park was purchased by the city in 1975 during his second term as mayor.

“My dad loved this city and was truly committed to using his gift of leadership and serving the Tuscaloosa community,” she said.
