Sellers said an argument began during which Jones became aggressive toward the victim and began a physical altercation, resulting in the victim being shot and suffering life-threatening injuries.

He then said witnesses and Jones told investigators, the victim and the suspect did not know each other prior to the shooting.

The victim was transported to a medical facility, Sellers said, where she was stabilized but remains in critical condition.

After being taken into custody, Jones was charged with attempted murder and placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail with bond to be set by a judge.

Sellers said additional charges against Jones could be pending.
