Tuscaloosa Oktoberfest Coming To Government Plaza Next Month

TUSCALOOSA, AL — German-inspired food, beer, live music and dachshund races will fill downtown as Tuscaloosa Oktoberfest returns Sept. 20 to Government Plaza.

The festival, presented by UA Online, runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., following the conclusion of the annual 5k and Kids’ 1k that will benefit the American Cancer Society and Ronald McDonald House.

Organizers highlighted a full slate of activities, including the Dachshund Dash, a new dog costume contest, a stein-hoisting competition and Hammerschlagen — a traditional German nail-driving game.

Food and drinks will be available throughout the day, and a Kids Zone will be offered at no charge.

“Tuscaloosa Oktoberfest is one of the most anticipated events of the year, and with great partners like UA Online and Mercedes-Benz U.S. International Inc., we’re excited to bring the community together for an unforgettable day,” Visit Tuscaloosa President and CEO Kelsey Rush said.

Admission is free, but guests who plan to drink beer must purchase a $10 commemorative stein.

VIP tickets, which include food, drinks and access to air-conditioned restrooms, are available for $75, with only 200 to be sold.

The Mercedes-Benz U.S. International 5k begins at 8 a.m. at Government Plaza.

Registration for the 5K is priced at $45 and includes a T-shirt, stein and one beer for runners 21 and older. The Kids 1k is $25 to enter.
