Tuscaloosa Police Accepting Applications For 2024 Citizens Academy
The class provides the public the chance to get an up-close look at the daily operations of law enforcement.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Police Department is accepting applications for its 2024 Citizens Academy, which provides the public the chance to get an up-close look at the daily operations of law enforcement.

TPD says classes will be held Monday evenings in February and March from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., with dinner provided for each class. The deadline to apply is Jan. 12.

As part of the class, participants will ride along with a patrol officer for part of a shift and spend a day at the shooting range.
Participants will also collect evidence and work to solve a mock homicide investigation, which will provide an inside look at how TPD forensics sciences investigators use emerging technology to help solve crimes.

What's more, participants will also get the chance to use TPD's virtual reality training simulator, along with other activities aimed at educating citizens about a day in the life of a police officer.
