Tuscaloosa Police Department Warns Of Latest Phone Scam

Here's what to know regarding the newest phone scam that TPD is cautioning the community to be aware of.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Police Department is warning the community of a new call scam trying to convince the person answering that the call is coming from the department's non-emergency number.

TPD says its dispatchers answered several calls Thursday from people regarding the calls, going on to say that scammers have spoofed the number and are telling people they have federal warrants they can take care of by sending money.

The scammers will do this by requesting the money through transfer apps or gift cards.

TPD also reminded the community that legitimate law enforcement agencies will never demand payment over the phone or ask for funds through unconventional methods like gift cards or payment apps.
