Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra Opens New Season Sept. 22

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra will launch its 2025-26 season with "IGNITE" on Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. at Moody Concert Hall.

Under the direction of maestro Adam Flatt, the season opener will feature Dvořák’s Cello Concerto with guest soloist Gabriel Martins, along with Barber’s "Symphony No. 1" and Ginastera’s "Variaciones concertantes."

Martins, a Brazilian-American cellist born in 1998, has been hailed as one of today’s leading young artists. The Strad described his New York City debut as “flawlessly played … a deeply moving experience,” while Classic FM named him a “30 Under 30” Rising Star.

He is a past winner of the Sphinx Competition Gold Medal and Young Classical Artists Trust Grand Prize, and has performed at Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, and with major orchestras including San Francisco, São Paulo and Montréal.

The symphony’s commitment to education remains a central part of its mission. Over the past three years, attendance has grown 80%, and programs now reach more than 10,000 students annually through free concert access, classroom visits and hands-on music experiences.

Season tickets, flexible packages and single tickets are offered, with free admission available to students on a limited basis. Group discounts, valet parking and pre-concert hospitality are also available.
