Two Arrested After 15-Year-Old Boy Shot In Northport

NORTHPORT, AL — The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit says a 15-year-old boy was shot and a home was struck by gunfire Friday afternoon following an argument between several young men in Northport.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said Saturday morning that Northport Police responded to a 911 call about 4 p.m. in the 2600 block of 16th Avenue, where they found the teen with a non-life-threatening injury.

Kennedy said multiple shots were fired and a nearby residence was also hit.
He then said Violent Crimes Unit investigators determined that an argument had broken out at the home among several people, including juveniles, and multiple individuals had firearms during the confrontation.

Jaius Prince, 29, was believed to have fired several times, striking the teen and hitting an uninvolved residence.
Kennedy said Prince was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and shooting into an occupied residence.
Prince was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail and has not yet had his bond set.
Another juvenile — who was not identified by name — was also arrested on a charge of being a certain person forbidden to possess a firearm and taken to juvenile detention.
Kennedy said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
