“Our role as the state’s flagship institution helps create pathways that strengthen industries vital to our future,” he said.
The effort also comes as the Navy seeks to recruit 25,000 new trades workers annually to build and sustain its fleet.
As part of Build Giants Alabama, UA will host job fairs, mentorship programs, and STEM outreach while developing curriculum and collaborative projects with faculty and students.
“America needs more skilled workers to build and sustain the Navy our nation needs,” said Matthew Sermon, program manager of the Maritime Industrial Base Program. “The University of Alabama’s influence, reach and commitment to education make it an ideal partner.”
UA Athletics Director Greg Byrne said the visibility of Crimson Tide Athletics offers a powerful platform to connect with future workers.
“We’re proud to team up with and shine a spotlight on the Build Giants Alabama initiative,” he said.
