UA Collects 326,644 Pounds Of Food In Beat Auburn Beat Hunger Food Drive
Despite Auburn winning the annual food drive, both sides were good sports for a good cause to benefit the West Alabama Food Bank.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Despite Alabama losing to rival Auburn in the 30th annual Beat Auburn Beat Hunger food drive, the competitors still managed to come together to collect more than a million pounds of food for those in need going into the holiday season.

When results were announced Friday morning at the West Alabama Food Bak, University of Alabama students reported raising 326,644 pounds of food — enough to provide more than 272,000 meals to those in west Alabama struggling with food insecurity.

Auburn won the annual competition by raising 686,807 pounds of food from Sept. 29 to Nov. 16.
“It’s amazing what these two universities have done for the food insecure population of Alabama,” West Alabama Food Bank CEO Jean Rykaczewski said. “The last two years have been record-setting years for what we can do.”

The University of Alabama says all food and monetary donations collected during the Beat Auburn Beat Hunger food drive benefit the West Alabama Food Bank and its nine-county service area.
