UA Professor David Albright To Chair Veterans Rural Health Advisory Committee

UA Professor David Albright​ has been appointed chair of the Veterans Rural Health Advisory Committee.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — University of Alabama Distinguished Professor David Albright has been appointed chair of the Veterans Rural Health Advisory Committee by the U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Doug Collins.

Albright, who teaches in UA’s department of political science in the Barefield College of Arts & Sciences, also serves as principal investigator of VitAL — a university initiative focused on public health and well-being.

Albright has also represented the City of Northport on the nine-member DCH Health System Board of Directors since September 2021.

Established in 2008, the federal committee is tasked with advising the secretary of Veterans Affairs on strategies while studying and analyzing the challenges rural veterans face when accessing health care.

Albright previously served as a committee member and will now assume the chair position previously held by Dean of Fayetteville State University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences Marcus Cox.

University officials said Albright’s appointment reflects Alabama’s growing role in shaping research and policy to support veterans and military-connected populations nationwide.
