Coursework will also emphasize applied learning through internships, policy labs and community-based projects.

“By cultivating leadership talent and policy expertise, the School of Leadership and Policy will serve as a catalyst for developing the next generation of changemakers — those who will lead Alabama and the nation toward a prosperous and resilient future,” Mohler said.

UA says the curriculum will focus on students engaging thoughtfully in civic life and government, with an emphasis on understanding the foundational principles of American institutions, law and public discourse.

Students will also work with nonprofits, public agencies and private organizations to address real-world challenges.

UA System Chancellor Sid J. Trant said the school will play a key role in preparing students to lead across sectors.

“Through rigorous interdisciplinary studies rooted in the foundational principles of American democracy, The University of Alabama’s School of Leadership and Policy will educate and empower our students to become effective and principled leaders equipped to improve lives across Alabama and beyond,” Trant said. “I am very excited for the role this school will play in the future of our state and nation.”
