“Winning the Marshall Scholarship validates that I am on the right path,” Miller said. “In education and international affairs, the problems you face often feel so big that you have no hope of solving them. … Having this marker that I have done something worthwhile for Tuscaloosa and the world means a lot to me.”
Miller has received several national academic honors in the past year.
In May, she was awarded Phi Beta Kappa’s Key into Public Service Scholarship and honored at the organization’s conference in Washington, D.C.
Miller also received the Allen J. Going Award for having the highest GPA in the incoming class of Phi Beta Kappa at UA.
UA says Miller's international experience includes studying Chinese through the U.S. State Department’s Critical Language Scholarship program at Tamkang University in New Taipei, Taiwan.
She also completed additional coursework at National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei.
The Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission says its scholarships support young Americans of exceptional ability pursuing graduate degrees in the U.K.
“Entering this community of extraordinary people is the cherry on top,” Miller said. “My experiences have taught me the value of having a strong support network … I am honored to have the opportunity to study and learn alongside these other young Americans.”
Miller will begin her studies in the U.K. next fall.
