WATCH: Tide QB Jalen Milroe Speaks With Media Ahead Of Opener

Here's what Tide quarterback and team captain Jalen Milroe had to say during his media availability on Tuesday.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Week One of the college football season is officially underway as the No. 5 Alabama Crimson Tide preps to open the 2024 campaign at home Saturday against Western Kentucky.

Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe, a junior from Katy, Texas, has been nominated as one of the team captains as he enters his second season as the starter.

"This year is very, very important," Milroe told local media Tuesday. " I'm super excited for the opportunity and so now it's just trying to be the positive reflection of our football team each and every day I walk in the building. I'm just super thankful to be nominated as the team captain this year."

When asked about how his relationship with first-year head coach Kalen DeBoer, Milroe spoke to his personal touch.

"He believes in me, he loves me and I think there's nothing greater than that," Milroe said. "Beyond any X's and O's and going over schemes, it's the belief system that a coach has in a player. You're going to want to play for a coach ... and ultimately do your best each and every day because you have a coach that's behind you and that wants the best for you.

Alabama will face Western Kentucky at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday at 6 p.m.

The game will be televised on ESPN.
