Even if lawmakers approve House Bill 144, the City Council would still have to pass a local ordinance before any new district becomes reality.
   

• Orr, Garrett hopeful for compliance but warn of consequences for colleges, universities violating state anti-DEI law (1819news.com) — A Republican legislative panel held in Vestavia Hills highlighted how state leaders plan to enforce Alabama’s anti-DEI law on colleges and universities, warning of consequences for schools that don’t comply. Lawmakers said they’re generally pleased with university cooperation so far but promised more scrutiny and potential budget-related penalties as the next legislative session begins.
