1. A teacher at West Anchorage High School was awarded the prestigious Milken Educator Award in a surprise ceremony last week. Temperance Tinker-Kays has been teaching English for 13 years and is one of 60 educators to receive the award this year. The Milken Educator Award is given to exceptional early- to mid-career teachers and includes a $25,000 prize. (Anchorage Daily News)
2. The Fairbanks Ice Dogs defeated the Anchorage Wolverines in a 2-0 match on Saturday. The Big Dipper Ice Arena was packed as crowds watched the Ice Dogs snatch the victory and claim the Alaska Airlines Club 49 Cup.
