Here are the top 3 stories in Anchorage today:

  1. Last Friday evening, a rally was held in remembrance of Bishar Hassan, a man who lost his life to Anchorage police back in 2019. The rally was also held to bring attention to flaws in the city’s current policing practices, especially in terms of transparency and accountability. Speakers at the rally expressed support for Hassan's family and also called for better de-escalation practices from the police. (Anchorage Daily News)
  2. Members of Alaska's political leadership held a memorial for late Representative Don Young this past Saturday. According to the article, Young was the longest-serving Republican in the history of the U.S. House. He sadly passed away last month on Mar. 19 at 88 years old. Learn more about Young's legacy in this Fox News article. (Fox News)
  3. Last Friday, around 100 pilots picketed outside of Anchorage’s Ted Stevens International Airport over contract negotiations with Alaska Airlines. Other airports in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles also participated in similar pickets as well, which caused Alaska Airlines to cancel more than 120 flights since Friday. In a press release, the company stated it respects staff's right to protest and acknowledges the importance of obtaining a new contract. (KTOO)
