US Army Soldier Killed In Alaska Bear Attack During Training Exercise
The incident occurred west of the Anchorage Regional Landfill, and officials were still searching for the bear Tuesday evening.
JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, AK — A U.S. Army soldier was killed in a bear attack Tuesday during a training exercise in Anchorage, Alaska, according to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson officials.
Authorities declined to release the name of the soldier until family can be notified.
Soldiers were operating in Training Area 412, an area west of Anchorage Regional Landfill, when the attack occurred. Alaska wildlife troopers were still searching for the bear as of Tuesday evening, officials said.

It is unknown what type of bear attacked the soldier.
Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson did not return a request for comment from Patch.
