AZ Monsoon: Phoenix Could See Lower Temps, Rain This Week; NWS

The Phoenix area could see its first rain of the monsoon Tuesday and Wednesday, along with more seasonable temperatures, the NWS said.

PHOENIX, AZ — A return to more seasonable temperatures and a chance of rain are in the cards for the Phoenix area in the week ahead, the National Weather Service said.

The region will see an isolated chance of thunderstorms Tuesday and Wednesday, with a 10 percent chance of storms on Tuesday and a 20-to-33 percent chance the following day, the service said.

Any storms that do reach the Valley will mainly bring lightning and winds in excess of 35 MPH and blowing dust.

There's a 95 percent chance that rainfall totals in the Phoenix area will be a quarter-inch or less, the service said.

As for temperatures, Phoenix should see highs of 109 on Tuesday, before dropping down to 104 degrees Wednesday.

There will be a gradual ramp-up toward the weekend, however, with highs expected to reach 110 in the Phoenix area on Friday, the service said.

The outlook for storms over the weekend is murky at the moment, with a possible chance for additional storms on Sunday, according to the service.
