Christmas Tree Recycling In Phoenix: How, When, Where

Not sure how to recycle your Christmas tree in Phoenix? The city has a few "green" options for you.

PHOENIX, AZ — While some Phoenix residents have already taken down their Christmas trees, many are still enjoying their glittery ornament-adorned trees while planning on taking them down soon (or perhaps by the Eve of the Epiphany this Sunday or Monday). In the meantime, the city of Phoenix offers several ways residents can recycle their Christmas trees this year. Here’s what you need to know.

I Recycle Phoenix Festival

City of Phoenix residents can recycle their trees by dropping them off at the I Recycle Phoenix Festival this Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon at Christown-Spectrum Mall, 1703 W. Bethany Home Road. Event information is available by calling 602-262-4820.

City Of Phoenix Drop-Off Sites

Christmas trees and wreaths can also be recycled by dropping them off at these Phoenix park locations through this Sunday:

Central Phoenix

  • Desert West Park: 67th Ave. and Encanto Blvd.
  • Los Olivos Park: 28th St. and Devonshire Ave.
  • Madison Park: 16th St. and Glenrosa Ave.
  • Washington Park: 23rd Ave. and Maryland Ave.
  • Marivue Park: 59th Ave. and Osborn Road

North Phoenix

  • Mountain View Park: 7th Ave. south of Peoria Ave.
  • Cactus Park: 38th Ave. and Cactus Road
  • Sereno Park: 56th St. and Sweetwater Ave.
  • Paradise Valley Park: 40th St. south of Union Hills Dr.
  • Deer Valley Park: 19th Ave. and Utopia Road

South Phoenix

  • Cesar Chavez Park: 35th Ave. and Baseline Road
  • Desert Foothills Park: Desert Foothills and Chandler Blvd.
  • Mountain Vista Park: 50th St. north of Ray Road
  • El Reposo Park: 7th St. and Alta Vista Road

Phoenix Transfer Stations

  • North Gateway Transfer Station: 30205 N. Black Canyon Hwy.
  • 27th Ave. Transfer Station: 3060 S. 27th Ave.

The transfer stations can accept 1-2 live Christmas trees from those living in Phoenix city limits. If a resident wants to submit 3 or more Christmas trees for recycling, they can make use of their 1 free load weighing up to 1 ton by bringing a photo ID and their city services bill. Additional Christmas Tree Recycling Dropoff Sites:

A to Z Equipment Rentals and Sales at 4050 E. Indian School Road and 15634 N. 32nd St. are also accepting one tree per household, free of charge, through this Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Container-Grown Trees

Phoenix residents can donate certain species of container-grown living Christmas trees for replanting in Phoenix parks:

  • Chir Pine (pinus roxburghii)
  • Canary Island Pine (pinus canariensis)
  • Eldarica Pine or Goldwater Pine (pinus eldarica)
  • Aleppo Pine (pinus halepensis)

The container-grown trees must be 24” box-sized or 15 gallons.

Wreath And Tree Recycling Requirements

Trees must be unbagged and free of any lights, decorations, tinsel or tree stand, metal stakes or nails.

Only drop off wreaths and trees in marked drop-off areas.

Secure Christmas trees while transporting them. Use tie-down materials that are easy to cut or untie once at the dropoff site.
