Delivery Truck Veers Off Of Phoenix Freeway, Plunges Onto Roadway

The driver and passenger of a Phoenix delivery truck are doing fine after veering off of the Interstate-17 Monday afternoon, officials said.

PHOENIX — Officials said a delivery truck veered off the Interstate 17 freeway in Phoenix and plunged onto the roadway below on Monday afternoon.

The driver and passenger in the truck were both were able to get out of the crumpled truck on their own and escaped serious injuries, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The two were taken to a hospital as a precaution. Their names have not been released.

Arizona DPS officials said the driver somehow lost control of the truck before it clipped the guardrail, then fell about 20 feet to the street below.

It’s unclear what caused the driver to lose control of the truck and an investigation into what happened is now underway.

Traffic was snarled on the freeway above due to debris left on the pavement following the crash, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation, but lanes opened up just after 3:30 p.m.
