Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:

  1. Jonathan Perryman, an inmate who escaped from a work crew in San Luis, was captured at a south Phoenix hotel after being located by members of the Arizona Department of Corrections' fugitive apprehension unit and the U.S. Marshals Service. Perryman, who doesn't have any prior convictions of violence, was incarcerated at Yuma's state prison and had a release date set for June 2026, according to the Department of Corrections. He will now be transferred to a high-security unit and faces administrative disciplinary charges in the prison system and criminal escape charges in the judicial system. (The Arizona Republic)
  2. The third annual Black Restaurant Week is kicking off in Phoenix on Mar. 16, with 20 eateries serving up African, African-American, and Caribbean flavors. One of the participating restaurants, Charlie Mae’s Southern Bistro, has been in business for seven years and recently rebranded to focus on southern-style fare. The pandemic forced the restaurant to switch to takeout-only, but they have adapted and are participating in the event to showcase their recovery. (ABC15 Arizona in Phoenix)
  3. The Arizona Humane Society is collaborating with several organizations to hold a "Vaccine Blitz" event on Mar. 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at three Phoenix Food City locations. Pet owners can bring their furry friends to receive free DA2PP vaccinations, wellness exams, and microchips. 150 spots are available at each location on a first-come, first-served basis.
