1. Community honors slain Phoenix teacher with toy drive (fox10phoenix.com) — A Phoenix community is rallying this weekend to honor slain Camelback High School teacher and coach David Denogean with a growing toy drive near 12th Street and Bethany Home Road. Three years after he was fatally shot while walking his dog, his family is using games, food, and free gifts for kids to keep his memory alive while still seeking accountability in the unsolved case.

2. Body found in north Phoenix desert area remains under investigation (azcentral.com) — Police are investigating after a body was discovered earlier this month in a desert area of north Phoenix near 64th Street and Mayo Boulevard, just east of Mayo Clinic Hospital and south of Loop 101. The person has not been identified, no cause of death is confirmed, and investigators are asking anyone with information to contact Silent Witness anonymously.

3. Peter Dai Bui appointed as new bishop for Diocese of Phoenix (ktar.com) — Phoenix’s Roman Catholic community is getting a new auxiliary bishop, as Monsignor Peter Dai Bui is appointed to help lead the Diocese of Phoenix alongside Bishop John Dolan. Bui, who has served multiple East Valley parishes, will continue as Vicar of Clergy while taking on expanded responsibilities in one of the nation’s fastest-growing dioceses.

4. Long-time volunteer remains hopeful amid The Salvation Army fundraising shortfall (azfamily.com) — A Salvation Army Red Kettle shortfall reported from Phoenix could force cuts to programs that Valley residents rely on year-round. The nonprofit is about $800,000 behind its Arizona goal, but dedicated volunteers, including a Surprise bell ringer doubling his shifts, are still hopeful last-minute donations through Christmas Eve can close the gap.
