Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:
- Monty Williams, the former coach of the Phoenix Suns, has put his Scottsdale home on the market for $4 million. The coach previously purchased the 5,527-square-foot home on 6086 E. Sunnyside Drive, which boasts 20-foot ceilings and an indoor-outdoor entertaining experience, for $2.38 million back in May of 2019. Williams was fired as the Phoenix team's coach last month after the team was eliminated from the Western Conference semifinals and has taken a new position as the head coach for the Detroit Pistons. - Two Phoenix homeowners, Liz Hargens and another anonymous individual, say they have been defrauded by a fake contractor named Dominic Alcarez, who operated without a required license. Hargens reportedly paid Alcarez over $9,000 for a kitchen remodel that never took place, while the other homeowner paid him $35,000 for a remodeling job. Despite promises of refunds and resolutions, both homeowners report they have been left empty-handed, and they suspect that other homeowners may have fallen victim to Alcarez's scam as well. The Arizona Registrar of Contractors is currently investigating the matter. (Arizona's Family)
- The Phoenix Parks Department could pursue a long-term security contract, making a temporary patrol program permanent. Phoenix Parks have implemented a temporary security program utilizing private guards to combat drug use, vandalism, and fires. In under four months, these patrols have encountered nearly 800 individuals during off-hours, leading to 22 police interventions and five instances of calling 911 for suspected overdoses. The initiative has resulted in a decline in vandalism and litter, prompting consideration for a permanent implementation while additional park rangers are being hired for evaluation purposes. (KJZZ)
