Girl, 16, Dies From Gunshot Wound In Phoenix

Police said a 16-year-old boy was taken into police custody in connection to the shooting.

PHOENIX — A 16-year-old girl died Sunday night in Phoenix after she was taken to an area hospital with a gunshot wound.

Phoenix police told Patch officers were called to the 1700 block of W Desert Cove Avenue around 10:10 p.m. after a shooting was reported.

When police arrived, they found the girl had been shot. She was taken to a hospital where she died from her injuries.

Police said a 16-year-old boy was in the room and handling the gun when it discharged, striking the girl. He has been taken into police custody.

Officials said detectives have not yet announced whether the boy will be charged.
