Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:
- On Friday, May 19, a teenager was arrested after law enforcement found a rifle and ammunition at a high school in Maryvale. Reports came into the Phoenix police station around 1 p.m. and ended up finding an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle with additional ammunition in the student's backpack and lunch box. The student was arrested in the school's main office on multiple felony charges. (AZ Central)
- The Maricopa County Community College District is expanding its bachelor's degree programs this fall by adding a Bachelor of Science in nursing. According to a release from the district, the college is aiming to expand their bachelor programs to ensure both incoming and returning students have different resources available to them. These additional programs are meant to support MCCCD students who would not typically transfer to a larger university after earning their two-year degree. (Daily Independent)
- A 34-year-old man in Phoenix was killed in a hit-and-run on Saturday, May 20 as he was driving his scooter down 36th Street and Thomas Road. The victim was known as Leif Chapin, and according to a witness, they saw the driver crash right into the man and quickly flee the scene. The accident happened around 10:15 a.m., and detectives are now getting involved in the investigation. (Fox 10 Phoenix)

- St. Vincent de Paul charity based in Phoenix is currently collecting donations to stock up local thrift stores and help newly housed families find supplies. The donations are being requested in support of their latest initiative, 'Bringing Hope Hope,' which focuses on taking families and individuals in need to shop at a thrift store within the community to help furnish and decorate their new homes. - This past week, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, along with many other city officials, gathered to conduct a roundtable discussion focusing on fentanyl awareness. The discussion was hosted by the Phoenix Union High School District and served as a way to inform the community about our current opioid epidemic. (KJZZ)
- According to a recent study, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport ranked as the ninth angriest airport in the country. This spring, Forbes Advisor researched over 37,000 tweets across 60 airports to see which one had the angriest travelers and the most common problems each passenger was facing.
