Man Dies While Hiking Papago Park: Phoenix FD

An adult man died after falling 40 feet while hiking the popular Hole in the Rock trail at Papago Park on Saturday, officials said.

PHOENIX — A man died while hiking a popular Phoenix trail on Saturday, authorities said.

The Phoenix Fire Department said that a man died after falling about 40 feet on the Hole in the Rock trail at Papago Park in Phoenix. Fire crews responded to the trail at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The injured hiker was loaded into a big wheel stretcher and taken down the mountain. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition and later died of his injuries.

Officials said the man was in his 20s but declined to identify him further.

Spokespersons for the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department, and the Phoenix Fire Department, had no additional comment.
