PHOENIX — Maricopa County is readying for the next phase of its long-term coronavirus vaccination plan.

The county announced it will open registration for Phase 1B vaccinations on Monday at 6 a.m., though spots will be limited as it continues to make its way through the first phase, which is made up of health care workers and long-term care facility residents.

Phase 1B includes Arizonans over the age of 75, educators, and first responders.

Information on where vaccinations will occur and how to sign up will be posted on maricopa.gov/5651/Phase-1B starting Monday. There is no registration available for 1B individuals before then. The county public health department can be reached at 602-506-6767.

Vaccination will be by appointment only and those eligible will need to undergo a pre-screening before than can get the shot. No walk-ins will be allowed. If you have had the coronavirus and recovered, you will still be eligible to receive the vaccine.

Anyone in Phase 1B will be asked to show appointment confirmation and a form of identification confirming employment as a teacher or first responder, including a work ID or paystub, or an ID that shows age for anyone over 75. The vaccine is free but you may be asked for an insurance card at the site, so be sure to have it handy.

Law enforcement personnel and educators have been asked by the county health department to check with their employers before signing up, as there could be plans in place through companies or departments.

Appointments will be initially available at the county's Point of Dispensing sites, which have been used in the first phase to roll out the vaccine to large numbers of people. The county expects more vaccination sites to become available as Phase 1B ramps up, including at pharmacies.

As of Friday, Maricopa County has provided approximately 68,892 doses of the vaccine with many in the first phase already receiving their second doses.
