Maricopa Gained Most Jobs In U.S. In 2019: Gov. Ducey

Maricopa, the nation's fourth-largest county, gained far more jobs than Los Angeles County, the nation's largest.

MARICOPA COUNTY, AZ — Maricopa County had a fantastic year in terms of job growth, according to a release from Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey's office. In all, the county gained 89,328 jobs, far more than any other county in the United States, throughout 2019.

Ducey said in the release that the job growth is credited to the state's business-friendly environment like light regulations, low taxes and a high quality of life.

"This growth benefits communities across our state, and we will continue to focus on expanding opportunities for all of Arizona," Ducey said.

Los Angeles County, the most populous county in the country at over 10 million residents, saw job gains of 56,720, the release says. Maricopa's growth of nearly 90,000 is especially notable due to its size of under 4.5 million.

The biggest fields of job growth in Maricopa County were trade, transportation and utilities at 16,300 new jobs and education and health services at 14,700 new jobs.

The release says Arizona has added over 350,000 private-sector jobs since 2015 and increased its export by nearly 10 percent, reaching $24.7 billion in 2019, a record high.

Regardless of high job growth, Arizona still has a relatively high unemployment rate of 4.6 percent, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
