“The shooting of nine people that took the life of one person on Hatcher Road near 10th Avenue is deeply troubling and has shaken the Sunnyslope community," Debra Stark, Phoenix city councilwoman for District 3, said in a news release. "This violence has no place in our neighborhoods! Further troubling is an additional fatal shooting of a juvenile that happened not even a half mile away around the same time."

The shooting at the strip mall happened around 1 a.m. Saturday during a large gathering at the mall, near 10th Avenue and Hatcher Road, police said. Some sort of disagreement among several of the people gathered there ultimately escalated into a shooting, police said.
