Mesa Man Charged With Murder In 'Accidental' Girlfriend Shooting

Police say that Martin Larney was charged with murder after changing his story about his girlfriend was shot.

MESA, AZ – A 22-year-old man from Mesa is charged with second degree-murder in connection with the shooting death of his girlfriend. Police say that Martin Larney was arrested on Sunday.

Police had been called to the apartment on Country Club Drive and Broadway Road that Larney shares with his brother around 8:30 Sunday morning. The caller reported an "accidental shooting."

On the floor of the apartment was Larney's girlfriend. She had been shot in the eye. She was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police say Larney was arrested after changing his story. They say that he alternately told them she had been shot when he tossed his gun on to the couch and it went off and that he was cleaning the gun. He then allegedly admitting having waved the gun at her because he was upset with her outfit.
