Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:

  1. Weldon Court Mobile Home Park residents, who were initially required to move out by Jun. 30, have been granted a reprieve as attorneys negotiate with the landowners for more time and compensation. The property owners have agreed not to pursue eviction actions against the remaining 150 residents until a final settlement can be reached by Jul. 15. However, the residents are facing uncertainty and financial concerns, with some feeling they are not being adequately compensated for their homes as they are forced to leave. (12news.com KPNX)
  2. On Tuesday, 46-year-old Martin Joseph Oliver was indicted on 17 felony charges after shooting at Phoenix police officers. The charges include 10 counts of aggravated assault, one count of first-degree burglary, five counts of disorderly conduct, and one count of misconduct involving weapons. Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell emphasized the importance of setting appropriate release conditions to prevent potentially dangerous offenders from being released into the community while awaiting trial, stating that the safety of the community is a priority. 3. Phoenix is planning to construct a structured campground on four acres of state-owned property near "The Zone," the city's largest homeless encampment. The campground, estimated to cost $3 to $4 million annually to operate, will provide shelter, security, showers, and on-site services for up to 400 people. While the city's primary goal is to offer indoor shelter to everyone in "The Zone," the campground is seen as a temporary alternative until sufficient indoor spaces are available.
