Motorcycle Rider In Critical Condition After Phoenix Hit And Run
A 19-year-old woman is in critical condition after her motorcycle was struck by a sedan Sunday afternoon at 7th Ave. and Mohave in Phoenix.
PHOENIX, AZ — A 19-year-old woman riding a motorcycle is in "extremely critical" condition after she was struck by a sedan Sunday around 1:45 p.m. in Phoenix. The driver of the 2007 Volkswagen sedan that hit the motorcycle left the crash scene after the accident, police reported.
Cuauhtemoc Rodriguez Ibarra, 51, failed to yield, then collided with the 2001 Honda motorcycle while on Mohave Street headed east across 7th Avenue. The helmet-wearing motorcycle rider, who had been headed north on 7th Avenue, was then taken to the hospital by the Phoenix Fire Department.
After the crash, Ibarra left the accident scene, but witnesses stayed and talked to police, describing the driver and vehicle. Not long afterward, Phoenix police found Ibarra near 1500 S. 3rd Ave., establishing enough probable cause to take him into custody around 3:30 p.m. Police then booked Ibarra, who displayed signs of DUI, into the 4th Avenue jail. He faces charges of aggravated DUI and aggravated assault.
