Man Killed In Police Shooting Identified: Phoenix Police
The man was accused of stabbing a woman multiple times, according to police. The woman he's accused of stabbing was in critical condition.
PHOENIX, AZ — A man is dead after a Phoenix police officer shot him Monday afternoon, according to Phoenix police.
Emilio Chamizo, 30, was accused of stabbing a woman several times near the intersection of 30th Avenue and Coronado Road. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. The woman was also taken to a local hospital where she was in critical but stable condition, according to police. Police expected the woman to survive.
Chamizo is accused of having a knife in his hand when an officer arrived at the scene around 1:05 p.m., according to police. Police said that the officer shot Chamizo after he refused to drop the knife and walked toward the officer.

Officers found Chamizo near the intersection after receiving a call about the stabbing, police said.
As is standard procedure, the officer was put on administrative leave while an internal investigation of the shooting is underway. The department did not publicly identify the officer.
