Officer Shoots Man Accused Of Brandishing Gun: Police

The man who was shot is expected to survive, according to police.

PHOENIX, AZ — A Phoenix police officer shot a man whom police accused of brandishing a gun Thursday evening, according to a news release.

The unidentified man was taken to a local hospital and was expected to survive, according to police. Police did not detail his condition or injuries.

The man was not arrested pending treatment.

Officers encountered the man around 11:30 p.m. Thursday while responding to a call about a man with a gun who threatened to rob a convenience store near 17th Avenue and Van Buren Street, police said.

The officer shot the man after he reportedly pointed a gun at the officer and refused to drop it, police said.
