Phoenix 15-Year-Old Is Charged With Shooting A 16-Year-Old

A Phoenix 15-year-old was booked on aggravated assault charges after police determined his shooting of a 16-year-old wasn't accidental.

PHOENIX, AZ — A 15-year-old young man was booked into the Maricopa County Juvenile Detention Center after a 16-year-old young man was critically injured after being shot Wednesday.

On Wednesday about 4:10 p.m., the suspect, victim and other teens were at the suspect’s home near 8300 N. 29th Ave. when some of the teens “were recklessly handling a handgun,” according to Phoenix Police Detective Luis Samudio. During that time, it was reported that “the suspect shot the victim,” Samudio said.

The 16-year-old was taken to the hospital with what was deemed a life-threatening injury. However, the adolescent’s condition has since stabilized, police reported.

Though the shooting was first reported to police as being accidental, detectives determined otherwise and arrested the suspect. The 15-year-old faces charges of disorderly conduct with a weapon and aggravated assault.
