Phoenix Driver Jailed In Connection With Pregnant Woman Accident
Phoenix PD jailed a man on drug charges in connection with a car accident he allegedly caused Sunday, ejecting a 9-month-pregnant woman.

PHOENIX, AZ – Phoenix Police Department Sergeant Maggie Cox has reported that 31-year-old Cory Vargo has been arrested and booked into jail for marijuana possession in connection with a car accident Sunday involving a 9-month-pregnant woman. Around 12:30 p.m., Vargo was headed north in a 2003 Lincoln Avalon near Oak and 24th streets when he neglected to stop at a red light. Consequently, Vargo’s vehicle hit a Chevy Impala headed east, ejecting the impala’s 30-year-old male driver and a 9-month-pregnant, 27-year-old female passenger. Vargo’s Lincoln then spun and hit a 2004 Honda Pilot driven by a 55-year-old male.
After the vehicles came to a stop, the Phoenix Fire Department was called to the scene and took the pregnant woman to the hospital. The woman was seriously but not fatally injured, and she was able to safely deliver the baby. The Honda Pilot driver was not injured, nor was Vargo. The Impala’s male driver sustained minor injuries.
Cox reported that Vargo displayed signs of being impaired at the scene of the accident and that he was in possession of marijuana. He was accordingly booked into the Maricopa County 4th Avenue Jail on drug possession charges. Police are still investigating the incident, and Vargo might face additional criminal charges once the Phoenix PD receives his toxicology test results.
