Phoenix High Schoolers Can Apply For Youth Awards, Win $2,000

Phoenix high-school-age youth can apply for the city's "Outstanding Young Man/Young Woman of the Year" awards to win up to $2,000 in prizes.

PHOENIX, AZ — The City of Phoenix Youth and Education Office recently announced the beginning of application acceptance for its "2020 Outstanding Young Man/Young Woman (OYMYW) of the Year" awards. The contest’s awards include $500 and $1,500 prizes.

The OYMYW awards honor and recognize Phoenix youths’ outstanding achievements, increase community awareness of youths’ positive contributions and raise the community’s perceptions of local youths.

Any student attending a Phoenix high school or residing in the city of Phoenix can apply. Application steps include submitting a letter of recommendation, writing an essay and providing proof of legal U.S. residence.

One young woman and one young man from each Phoenix city council district will be named as contest winners and receive a $500 award. All district winners will then attend a luncheon during which the contest’s citywide award winners are named. Citywide winners will receive an additional $1,500 award.

Contest applications can be submitted online by eligible students by 5 p.m. Feb. 28, 2020 on the City of Phoenix's website.
